Award-winning projects from the Austrian National Design Prize, the „Spaces & Environment“ Special Prize and „Design Concepts“
The 51st edition of the State Prize for Design presents not merely a list of projects, but a cultural constant. Following its major anniversary in 2024, this prize is now entering a new decade – and it does so at a time when substance is needed more than ever. Austria possesses this substance: the talent to use tradition not as a burden, but as a foundation for radicalism. A common thread runs from the geometric visions of Viennese Modernism to today’s high technology: the belief that an object – whether a precision medical device or a simple shelf – derives its raison d’être from the perfect balance of form and ethics. This exceptional approach to design is characterised by quality, honesty and deep roots in craftsmanship, which remain intact even in international collaborations.
This exhibition showcases applied innovation:
the tangible outcome of a process in which designers translate the complexities of our time into concrete, human-centred solutions. In making their selection, the jurors specifically sought out projects in which environmental responsibility is deeply embedded in the very DNA of the design language, rather than merely serving as an afterthought. Whether it is the sustainable use of materials in interior design, the social relevance of consumer goods or the technological precision of capital goods – the selected projects provide the right answers to the pressing questions of our time.
The exhibition showcases the award-winning projects. It will then tour Austria, with exhibitions at the designforum Vorarlberg and Tyrol.
The results of the competition have also been published in a catalogue. It showcases all the winning entries and is available for EUR 14.90, or at a reduced price of EUR 7.90 for members (including 10% VAT), from the online shop and at the designforum.
